The two-day literary event, organized by the literary organization “Nilambar,” created an atmosphere of poetry, thought, and cultural expressions that deeply impacted literature lovers. As part of the event, the programs “Ek Sanjh Samvad Ki” and “Ek Sanjh Kavita Ki-11” were successfully held at Sharat Sadan, Howrah, and Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, Kolkata, respectively.
The purpose of the programs was to engage in serious discussion on contemporary Hindi poetry, its changing concerns, and the role of poetry in current social conditions. A large number of literary figures, young writers, and audience members attended both days.
The theme of the program “Ek Sanjh Samvad Ki” held on the first day was “Poetry in an Era of Simplification.” Renowned young voices of contemporary Hindi poetry, Anupam Singh, Adnan Kafeel Darvesh, Sanjay Rai, and Bachchalal ‘Unmesh’, participated in the dialogue. The poets expressed their views on the language, craft, social concerns, and complexities of contemporary poetry. During the dialogue, it emerged that poetry is not only a medium of resistance, but also a cultural force that preserves human sensitivity, self-dialogue, and social complexities.
Poet Anupam Singh stated that today is a time of immediate reactions and simplification, while poetry serves to preserve the multi-layered nature of human experience. Adnan Kafeel Darvesh, describing poetry as a counter to all forms of simplification, said that poetry does not offer ready-made solutions, but rather inspires thinking and questioning. Bachchalal ‘Unmesh’ discussed the reasons for focusing on issues of caste discrimination, social humiliation, and human dignity in his poems. Sanjay Rai described poetry as a medium to express the invisible world within humans. The active participation and questions from the audience made the dialogue extremely lively.
The highly anticipated poetry evening, “Ek Sanjh Kavita Ki-11,” held on the second day, resonated with the sound of contemporary poetry until late in the evening. The program began with a welcome address for the guests. Mr. Ritesh Kumar Pandey, representing the organization, stated that poetry is the most powerful medium for keeping society’s sensibilities alive, and that the need for literary dialogue is greater than ever before.
Anupam Singh, Adnan Kafeel Darvesh, Sanjay Rai, and Bachcha Lal ‘Unmesh’ recited their powerful poems. The poets captivated the audience with their works on various topics related to contemporary society, human sensibilities, the changing social environment, and everyday life.
Along with the poetry, cultural performances also added to the emotional atmosphere of the program. Ahana Thakurta presented a poetry-dance performance, while Lokrangi artists Aparajita Vinay, Nikhil Vinay, Amit Chaudhary, Amit Mishra, Rakesh Chaudhary, and Deepak Thakur captivated the audience with their poetry-music performances.
Both programs were effectively moderated by Priyanka Singh and Preeti Pandey, respectively. Finally, Nikhil Vinay delivered the vote of thanks, expressing his gratitude to all the poets, guests, audience, and organizers.
This two-day event, filled with literature, dialogue, and empathy, became an unforgettable cultural experience for the audience, further strengthening the belief that poetry remains the most powerful medium for sustaining society’s human consciousness.
